After 47 years, the Redmond Pool’s systems had outlived their useful life, and improvements to the pool were necessary and critical to the future use of the pool as a community space. A first phase of essential improvements commenced in 2019 with infrastructure and envelope improvements that resulted in better air and water quality, energy efficiencies, operational savings and will help preserve the pool for another 25 to 30 years.
The ARC Architects-led team was responsible for the second phase of improvements. The primary focus of this effort was to enhance the customer experience for the more than 95,000 annual visitors, including local high school swim teams, cultural groups, seniors, and community organizations.
Multiple options were explored as part of a robust public outreach process, incorporating community interests and concerns related to how the Pool could maximize its existing footprint while maintaining its unique charm as a 'lake set in the middle of a forest.'
Improvements include locker room & lobby enhancements, new pool decking & acoustics, improved site and building accessibility, introduction of community gathering spaces, public art, and expanded storage.
