Innovative Interiors
This project will transform an existing 80,000 sf building into a modern workplace for Kent's departments of Parks, Finance, Public Works, Economic Community Development, and the Mayor's Office. The design team, in collaboration with the City of Kent, focused on developing strong interior themes derived from the history of the city. The themes use color and materiality to create a sense of place and wayfinding. The thoughtful selection of materials convey unique textures, opacities, and movements to create a dynamic, professional, and welcoming user experience.

The following series of renders showcase material selection and the translation of project themes into interior architectural design. Local imagery, intentional textures and color, and dynamic lighting are highlighted throughout the building.
The design team led an interactive presentation for the interior design and application of thematic colorways and materiality. The team provided colored dots for the owner group to mark their material preferences, and walked through how the themes are represented through materiality in each room type. Products were selected for their durability, longevity, acoustic properties, and design qualities. The physical materials laid out on the tables and floor of the Kent meeting room were visually modeled in the printed renderings, creating an opportunity for the client group to see how the products will look in their future space.
