A new city campus unites a community
In collaboration with the City of Wenatchee, our consultant team, and TW Clark Construction, ARC Architects' design for the Wenatchee Federal Building building (circa 1972) adapts a once windowless marble-clad USPS distribution center into a multi-level, naturally daylit City Hall that brings public and private spaces closer — physically, programmatically, and symbolically.

New large windows cut into the original solid marbel panels provide transparency for the New City Hall.
The lobby welcomes the public to meet with staff and provides transparency into the adjacent public offices. The cut exterior marble panels are reused at the reception desks.
The redevelopment of City Hall brings all of the City’s departments under a single roof and includes a refined, public-facing customer service center and Council Chambers. The project provides city staff with an industrial, yet modern and functional workspace, with an emphasis on natural daylight, color, technology, and unparalleled acoustics. A second floor was built inside the original USPS distribution center, creating much needed space.
The new windows flood the office spaces with natural light.

Meeting rooms are centrally located and welcome casual staff connections.
Implementing a variety of contemporary open work stations, private offices, conference rooms, and teaming spaces, the design offers flexible modes of collaboration that encourage a lively, dynamic, and productive workspace while simultaneously accommodating future growth for years to come.
Acoustic panels can be fun and provide warmth.
Built to reflect and embody the identity and character of the City of Wenatchee, City Hall serves as a recruitment tool to attract the next generation of city employees to the region, provide incentive to maintain existing staff, and creates a welcoming and inclusive venue for the residents and visitors alike.

Before / After: Recladding for daylight involved surgically removing, modifying and reinstalling the existing marble cladding around a series of floor-to-ceiling windows that compliment and take cues from the original architecture above.
